1.Tell us a funny story about a date night out with your husband.
One of the best parts of Mrs. International® is the pageant’s alliance with the Go For Red Women Foundation. As a board certified family physician I feel I am uniquely qualified to bridge the two organizations and reach out to women of all ages and from all walks of life.
2.What are the (2) most important things in your kitchen and why?
I have experienced the Lewis and Clark trail in reverse. During college I lived on a bluff overlooking the Willamette River, the western most point of the Expedition. Currently I live on a bluff on the Missouri River where Lewis and Clark spent the first night of their journey.
3.What do people assume about you that isn’t true?
Lifestyle choices are paramount to maintaining wellness. I teach my patients to get plenty of sleep, eat well, exercise regularly and work on stress reduction and stress coping mechanisms. Additionally, fish oil and vitamin D supplements are something that almost everyone needs. I try to practice what I preach!
4.Tell us a time you demonstrated leadership skills.
Family values equal teamwork. Initially and consistently, teamwork between a husband and wife, then the core family, extended family and finally the entire community. We all must work together to raise our children to be kind, healthy, loving human beings. A strong community starts with strong family values.
5.If you had no fear, what would you try?
I have an irrational fear of ‘chocolatelessness’. I stash chocolate in various hiding places so I am ready for any chocolate “crisis” that may occur and so the kids don’t devour it. I then forget about it, find it two years later and have to throw it out. Shameful!
